How to Build a SERP Scraper with Rotating Proxies

Search engines are among the most aggressively protected targets on the web. Google, Bing, and others deploy sophisticated bot detection — including behavioral analysis, fingerprinting, and IP reputation scoring — to block automated access.

The good news: with the right proxy strategy, you can build a SERP scraper that's reliable, cost-effective, and fast.

Architecture overview

A production SERP scraper needs three components:

1. **Request layer** — rotating proxies with session stickiness when needed 2. **Parsing layer** — HTML parser + result extractor 3. **Storage layer** — deduplication and result persistence

Choosing the right proxy type

For SERPs, ISP proxies are the best balance of performance and cost. They carry real residential IP reputation (assigned by actual ISPs) but connect at datacenter speeds. Residential proxies work but are 3–5× more expensive per request.

Rotation strategy

Rotate IPs per request for keyword research. For rank tracking (where you need consistency), use sticky sessions with the same IP for 10–15 minutes per location.
